Brian C. – When we decided to go with Jay’s K9 Universe for training we we’re not sure what to expect. We never had sent a dog to training and did not know if the cost would be worth it.

After our dog Zeus came back from his 3 week board, he was a new dog. He was able to understand many commands but most importantly “place” and able to walk off leash and stay by my side. The team at Jay’s K9 Universe did not just drop him off and say figure it out. They kept in touch for weeks and even months after making sure the transition with Zeus was not only smooth but that we got what we were looking for out of the training. It was worth every penny.

Absolutely a top notch trainer. My foster dog was in desperate need of a trainer that uses his method they are not easy to find as most are full or extremely expensive. Also, the majority do not have the dog living with them in thier personal family environment. Which can be crucial to rehabing major behavioral issues.

A few things that Jamal does which I believe are crucial in rehabilitating ….

We brought our Great Dane to Jamal to help with dog and people reactivity. After just under three weeks, Jamal was able to get him walking very well on a leash, following place, sit, and here directions. The difference in his demeanor was amazing. He was now a much more calm and manageable dog, but still affectionate and loving. Jamal from Jay’s K9 Universe trained my dog Aspen when she was six months old. Aspen is a boxer and was full of energy and very strong I knew I had to help her understand that I was the leader and not her because before too long she was going to be too strong for me.

Aspen would pull when I walked her and would often times escape from the house when the front door was open she didn’t know how to behave on a leash and refused to listen to anyone in my family. My worst fear was nearly realized when I witnessed Aspen run out the front door into neighborhood traffic.

It was then I knew I had to find a solution. It was then that I found Jamal. He helped me understand Aspen’s need to not only be calm but to have an inner calmness. After two weeks of time spent with Jamal, Aspen returned to us a different dog.

Jamal taught our family how to help Aspen remain calm and listen and understand when given instruction through some very simple strategies. Now I can take Aspen everywhere I go we now walk off leash and even if we encounter another dog or any distraction Aspen is able to make good decisions the most common refrain regarding Aspen I hear from people is “she is so calm and well behaved”. This is all because of Jamal and his training techniques. This was the best money I’ve ever spent.

I have a maltese shitzu mixed puppy name Precious that was very aggressive, always on attack to anyone that came near my daughter’s and I. I stepped out on faith and asked Jamal about his services.

Jamal worked with Mercedes early on in his doggy training endeavors. He taught her how to walk on leash, focus and implemented several commands such as place. Jamal also took the time to show me what he was teaching, gave advice and answered any questions I had. Jamal is great with Mercedes. She loves him and when she sees him in the neighborhood, she gets so excited. Jamal is an amazing teacher and trainer.

Jamal is very professional and knowledgeable. When we decided to foster a second dog with the intention of adoption, we thought our very territorial female dog would be aggressive towards the male dog. Jamal came to our home, and instructed us to let the dogs exist in the same space for a few days, and not allow them to physically interact until they were comfortable with each other. It worked sooner then expected and our female dog was not aggressive towards the foster dog. They played and cuddled together. They got along so well, that we ended up adopting the foster dog.

I highly recommend Jays k9 universe for training. Jamal is highly knowledgeable on all tools and methods needed to train from basic obedience to behavioral management. I myself have sought the assistance of 4 different trainers as well as a vet behaviorist to manage my highly anxious and pushy pitbull petey. Before finding Jamal I had contacted the shelter to return him since I could not manage him. After sending petey to him for his 5 week board and train I now have a dog I can live with. And Jamal does not end your relationship after those 5 weeks. He continually makes himself available at anytime for questions or concerns. I just had to write to thank you {and your beautiful family!} for taking such excellent care of Rocco over the past five weeks. Sending our dog, Sheldon, to Jamal was the best decision. Prior to the training program, we practically stopped having people over because Sheldon was so reactive to strangers and we did not know how to manage it. Jamal helped us with our foster dog Maple Syrup. Maple had been living in a cage for over two years and was previously neglected before that, so she had a lot to learn. From the moment we met Jamal and his family, they put our minds at ease and we knew that Maple was in good hands. She struggled with dog aggression and fear of people as well. We sent our two dogs to Jay for behavior modification training. Prior to the training, we were faced with the possibly of rehoming one of our dogs. They had several fights, one resulting in a visit to the vet. We were unsure of why the fights were occuring and how to control it safely. They were being rotated in and out of their crates because they were unable to exist the same room together.

Jay worked with both dogs to address their needs individually as well as working with them together. He corrected toy aggression, reactivity to other dogs, and taught them commands. Jay was very patient with our questions (there were many) and walked us through the steps we could take to keep the dogs comfortable sharing space. I highly recommend Jay’s K9 Universe. Before we brought our foster dog Skye to Jamal she was causing us a great deal of stress. Walks were especially dreadful between her pulling us all over the place and her reactivity to other dogs. She also had aggression and resource guarding issues. When we adopted our dog she had some reactivity issues such as barking, lunging and growling at strangers and other dogs. I can honestly say sending our dog, Sarge, to Jamal was by far one of the best decisions we ever made for our family. Prior to sending Sarge to Jamal, he was reactive, was mouthing, pulled us on walks & it got to the point where I had stopped walking him. Our dog Denver had a rough start in life. Abandoned outside a vets office around the age of 10 months he spend almost the next year of his life at the shelter I volunteered at until by fate he became a part of our family. Over the next two years, Denver’s leash biting and animal reactivity escalated to the point he had to be muzzled and walked only when there wasn’t much activity going on outside. To say this became stressful would be an understatement. I knew we needed professional help and I asked several animal rescues to recommend trainers which is how I came across Jays K9 Universe. Jamal was extremely professional to work with and I loved that we could come work with Denver on weekends to learn the skills to work with him at home. He’s been home about a month now and no longer wears a muzzle on his walks. He even got to attend a gathering with us with no issue. Jamal has a connection with dogs unlike any trainer i’ve seen so far, (and we’ve been through quite a few). I have a four year old pittie mix who has NO CHILL. Penelope runs at 110% all the time and while she is super sweet and wants nothing more than to be a permanent fixture on your lap. NOTHING is sweet about a 50lb projectile landing on your stomach as you’re trying to relax on the couch. She is my first dog, so unfortunately I was ill-equipped to manage her high energy and lack of focus. Before taking her to Jay’s K9 Universe for a three week Board and Train, days started with her barrelling out of her crate to zoomies all over the furniture – ALL the furniture: landing on glass tables, rebounding off the couch, climbing on the kitchen table if i wasn’t in the room, counter surfing, etc. Walks mostly meant me trying not to trip over her as she weaved back and forth in front of my feet or wrapped the leash around my legs, and frantic attempts to hold her back if she saw a squirrel or cat. She was also selectively dog-reactive; we just never knew which dogs she would deem ‘safe’ and which she would lunge at. We went through several levels of one-on-one training at one of large corporate pet store chains, but even after that whether she listened to commands was selective as well; if there were treats present I might have stood a chance, if there were no treats, it was like I didn’t exist. :-/

The improvements both during and after her time with Jamal have been significant! Now she spends most of her uncrated time relaxing in ‘place’, not wandering around and getting herself in trouble. She listens and obeys commands, walks are a hundred times easier, she understands that she is not allowed on the couch, (or anywhere, really), unless invited. Most importantly, not only did she come home with a better understanding of what is expected of her, but I gained a better understanding of how to hold her focus and communicate to/advocate for her. This has proved invaluable for continuing to build on the strong foundation set by Jamal while instilling confidence in both myself and my dog and strengthening our bond. As we work and she settles into our new house rules, she only continues to improve. 🙂

I looked everywhere in NJ, read so many dog trainer reviews, watched videos, and after much research, I narrowed it down to 3 trainers. I met each over the phone and discussed my dogs leash reactivity / aggression issues. Not many trainers hear of a dog that’s dog friendly yet while on leash, extremely aggressive where she actually has bit us while trying to get to another dog on leash. After speaking with Jamal twice, I knew he would be a perfect fit for our dog, Honey. We had to wait 1 month & a half before she could start the program because he is an in demand trainer & was already booked. It was well worth the wait!!!

Honey entered into his 5 week program & has exited a new dog, while still having her loving personality. She now knows how to walk on leash, very well, she is extremely obedient, crate trained, & most important NO longer on leash dog aggressive!!! Instead of lunging/barking/biting, she just whines but once we shush her, she stops!

Jamal is 100% worth all your time, money, and investment for your furbabies. Some people think we’re crazy for investing so much but we believe it was worth every penny & we have the most amazing dog. Thank you Jamal for everything!!

Sending Hash to Jay’s K9 Universe has changed our lives for the better. We can now communicate properly with Hash and he understand the commands we give him. Before i sent Hash, I couldn’t walk him any longer than 10 min and no further than down the street and back. Hash is very insecure and would lash out at anyone he thought was a threat. Now after completing the 6 week board and train program I can walk hash for a mile or more with confidence. He walks right by my side and his attention stays with me. Without this training I would not be able to take Hash on an actual walk. He’s more obedient and makes better decisions. Jamal has taught us how to communicate and/or correct Hash with the proper tools and the results are amazing! I would recommend him to everyone!
